July 7, 2009

Today we went to Academia and Uffizi Museums. The first one was Uffizi and we saw some great medieval art paintings and it really helped me to understand the historical stories and religious events. We saw the birth of Venus painting which was totally cool. After that we went in and saw Michelangelo’s sculpture of David. It was so much bigger than I expected it to be. Our tour guide told us that the marble would have to be taken from the mountains and then brought down to the water and then transported to be carved. Back in those times to pull off something like that is just amazing in itself. Now if you add the carving of the sculpture and all of the detail and exactness of the human anatomy then you really can appreciate how beautiful it is. David was by far one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I also went and saw a Maplethorpe photography gallery and it was all nude male and female pictures that were black and white and beautifully done. I really enjoyed my museum visits today.
