Today was our tour of the Vatican. We saw beautiful artwork it was so gorgeous and amazing. Everything was so ornate and some might say gaudy but I loved all of the artwork and the color and metals that were used. I don’t know much about Catholicism so it was fun learning about the ceremonies and the history. When we arrived at the Sistine Chapel and saw Michelangelo frescos on the ceiling it was breathtaking I was amazed I really just tried to take it all in. It was a bunch of artwork to see in one day. You could probably spend several days there and still not see everything. Once the tour was over we walked up a serious of steps to the top of the dome through a narrow staircase that winded up the inside of the dome. It was an amazing view of Rome once we reached the top. After that we saw the Swiss guards and that was interesting to see their uniforms I would have taken a picture but we weren’t allowed to. All of the sculptures in the Vatican were beautiful I loved the marble and the mosaics were brilliant. We went to the top of the dome on this catwalk thing inside the chapel and looked down at that point it really put the size of the chapel into perspective for me all of the people below were so small. After the tour we had some free time so Erika, Scott, and I went out to this nice restaurant for dinner and then we did some sketching. We found this outdoor concert and went over and did some dancing and just enjoyed the night. We ended up staying out pretty late and had to take a taxi back to the hotel around two o’clock. It also was a very fun day.
